STEP 1: A GUIDE TO WARDROBE EDITING, READY TO RENT

As we think about the many ways to pass the hours in self-isolation, a wardrobe clear-out is most definitely on our minds. But wait! Before you go Marie Kondo on us, let’s think about the future.

Instead of throwing out your unworn items, there are other options that will benefit you and the planet. With no work and nowhere to get dressed for, our bank accounts and creative coffers will be crying out for a boost once lockdown has lifted. So what better time than to ready your wardrobe for the rental revolution?!

Times are certainly changing and faster than ever, and we believe that this will have a positive effect on our consumption behaviours for good. It is time we look to our own wardrobes and put our unworn items to work. Not only that, but when we have emerged from self-isolation we will need the support of our communities more than ever: to pull together, help, share and support. Fashion Rental has an opportunity to shine as we are forced to throw out old habits of buying fast fashion and look to the items we already own.

Never in our history has there been a moment where we have to stop, take a breath and think about the future that we want to shape. So let’s start with our wardrobes! Here is a mini guide to becoming the CEO of your own rental biz from the comfort of your bedroom and prepare yourself for fashion’s future.

LET’S GET ORGANISED

First we need to dive head first into that wardrobe. If it’s anything like ours, you may need to wear a snorkel and googles before plunging in.
We suggest to organise your items in our suggested groups:

  1. STAPLE WARDROBE
  2. RENTALS
  3. SWAP
  4. MEND
  5. DONATE
  6. RECYCLE

SO HOW DO YOU KNOW WHICH GROUP IS BEST?

  • CORE WARDROBE - This is your staple collection, the items you love to wear and wear pretty much all the time. This is your chance to curate the wardrobe you will wear as soon as self-isolation is over and emerge looking fabulous!
  • RENT - How can you tell if something is suitable to rent? Well, that’s up to you as it’s all about celebrating your personal style that you are sure someone else will also love. Do you have a dress in your wardrobe you have worn once and spent way too much money on for one outing? A vintage piece that needs time to shine? Can you style an outfit to be rented as an entire look? Now is the time to become your own stylist and get those creative fashion juices flowing. And let’s face it, we have the time! We will be following up with more tips to prepare your items to rent so get your items ready for the next journal post - #readyyourwardrobe Step Two.
  • SWAP - Do not fret, we are rescheduling our Swap Shops until later in the year so make sure to set aside anything you are done with wearing and ready to pass on to a new owner.
  • MEND - Now is the time to get out the sewing kit to patch up those tears, replace those forgotten buttons, shorten those pants and customise old items. If you can’t do it yourself then maybe the person you are self-isolating with knows how? If not, then head to The Seam who will be ready to fix and repair as soon as they are allowed to re-arm with needle and thread or check out our previous post on our 5 Top Restoration sites. As soon as they are mended and good as new, re-group them back into your Core Wardrobe or fit to Rent.
  • DONATE - We never suggest throwing items of clothing away to minimise fashion’s impact on our planet but we understand you might have items that just don’t fit or you never wear. What is one fashionista’s rubbish, is another’s treasure so set aside to donate to a family member, a friend or local charity as soon as we can reconnect with others outside our household. Traid has temporarily suspended their home collection service yet they are still emptying their recycle clothing banks whilst it is safe to do so.
  • RECYCLE - Fabric can be put to good use by either being recycled or upcycled. Check out your local recycle points for textiles, use old T-shirts as cleaning rags or stuffing for a new cushion. Check out Love Your Clothes recycling locator to find your nearest recycling options.

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, block-quotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content. Links should be underlined.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customise formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, block-quotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
